Not only is this subway conductor full of statistics (136 people committed suicide on the subway tracks in 2010) but also full of movie knowledge (good horror subway flicks—Midnight Meat Train? Snakes On A Train?)
So interesting. Just learned about “pointing at the board.” But weirdly, that figure for 136 suicides includes “accidental deaths,” which are, as we know, not suicides, but whatever! -L.A.
This is really fascinating. If you read it, you’ll learn things you never knew, like: sick passenger is code for “dead customer ON the train” and “police investigation” is the code for a suicide by train.
Also this: One of the first things you do in conductor training is stand in one of those little clearance holes in the wall and let a train pass, and it’s what really separates the men (and women) from the boys.
That sounds terrifying and awesome.
